In my opinion him living is suffering. When he finds out Loretta's dead, I think he's been welcoming death. Maybe they were both imprisoned separately, but Greirat managed to escape and freed all other prisoners before he left and Patches happened to be among those. Before sending Greirat to pillage Irythill, I ran into Patches and got him to stay at Firelink, saved Siegward and gave him his armor whilst buying another set off of Patches (NG+). Then AFTER I cleared Irythill up-to the Church of Yorshka bonfire I homeward bone'd back to the Shrine and told Greirat he is good to go.. Nevada bob
